The Green or Natural Burial is a way of caring for our deceased loved ones with the least possible environmental impact. It incorporates environmentally-friendly options to meet the needs of a family requesting a green service.
Common green burial practices may include:
• Biodegradable caskets or urns. No steel, or chemically treated wooden caskets, or concrete burial vaults are used.
• In some cemeteries, simple shrouding of the body may be used in place of a casket.
• Traditional embalming is not permitted. However, ecobalming, using a non-toxic solution to disinfect, cleanse and enhance the cosmetic appearance of a loved one may be allowed.
• Cremated bodies may also be interred in a green cemetery.
• Grave markers made of natural field stones may be permitted.
