BRIDGEPORT - Winnifred Brown, known to most as Winnie, 80, formerly of Waterbury, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Bridgeport Hospital.
Winnie was born on January 15, 1936 in Peckham Clarendon, Jamaica. The daughter of the late Madeline Knight. She moved to the U.S. in the late 60s living in New York before moving to CT in the mid-1990s. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as traveling. Winnie was a natural story teller and would often share the stories of her past with family and friends. She was a member of Living Faith Christian Church and was an avid painter.
Winnie is survived by her daughters Carmen (Haughton) Phipps, Marlene Hanlan, Sonia Haughton, Fantisha Brown; her three brothers Albert Knight, Sidney Dunn, and William Dunn; her three surviving sisters, Vera Knight, Veletta Dunkley and Ruby Smith as well as her twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Arrangements – Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Avenue. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
