“REJOICE AND BE HAPPY”
MIDDLEBURY- Winifred Catherine McKoy “Winnie” was born July 30, 1921 in New Brunswick, Canada to the late Ernest S. and Charlotte A. McIntyre. She was a middle child of eleven children. She departed her life at age 98 on November 12, 2019 at home after a brief illness.
Winnie was the beloved wife of the late John H. Cam and George H. McKoy. She moved with her family from Canada to Waterbury as a toddler in 1923, where she met John, married and reared her children. In the early 1950’s she moved to the New Haven area where she worked doing domestic work and waitressing. In the 1960’s she worked as a Nutritionist/Homemaker for the State of Connecticut. In 1970 she retired from state service, moved to Westfield, NJ and was employed as an assistant teacher at the Westfield Day Care Center. In 2003 she moved to Middlebury.
Winnie’s volunteer work included: Salvation Army, Board of Director for Westfield Senior Housing, Federal Domestic Agency, “Sharing the Light from Within”, Westfield Nutrition Program and Community Center, and she started the “Friendly Place Singers” group which received the State of New Jersey Governor’s Award. Winnie was a lifetime pianist, reading music, or playing by ear. She won many awards. She provided kindness, assistance, and neighborly services to those around her. She was well known to spread love, joy, and knowledge to all she met where ever she was.
Winnie leaves to cherish her memories: her daughter, Senior Soldier Gloria Vaugh, Kay Richey, Evangelist Fran e. McIntyre-Smith (Arnold), all of Waterbury, and her daughter Patricia Cam-Beaver (Alvin) of Bloomfield, and her son Reverend Richard J. Cam of Waterbury, her brother Rudolph McIntyre of Honolulu, HI, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, great-great-great grandchildren, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. She was predeceased by her son John Cam, and her other siblings.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all of the doctors, nurses, and health care professionals, who assisted with our loved one Winnie’s care.
A service for Mrs. McKoy will be held 11 A.M, Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at the Salvation Army, 74 Central Ave, Waterbury, 06702. A calling hour will be held from 10 A.M until the service begins at 11 A.M. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, 850 Meriden Rd, Waterbury, 06705. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704 is assisting the family with the arrangements.
