CHESHIRE- William F. "Bill" Lanzoni, 93, peacefully passed away Monday May 30, 2016 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Anita (Vegliante) Lanzoni to whom he was married for 70 years.
Mr. Lanzoni was born May 18, 1923 in Hamden, the son of the late Eneas and Rose (Vacca) Lanzoni.
He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, and proudly served during World War II in the India Theatre. Thanks to the GI Bill, after the war Bill attended and graduated from the University of Connecticut where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. In his professional career, he was Cost Accountant for Scovill, Controller of Southington Hardware, and he devoted the last 15 years of his working career as Controller of Sero Shirt Company in New Haven. He was also a co-owner of Bowlero, Inc., which owned and operated Hamden Lanes and Cherry Hill Lanes in Branford throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s.
In his free time Bill was an avid golfer. He was eleven-time Senior Club Champion at The Farms Country Club spanning three decades, an unheard of achievement by today's standards. His greatest accomplishment in golf was "shooting his age" 20 consecutive years from the age of 71 through the age of 90, which to this day is believed to be a record in the State of Connecticut.
Bill was compassionate, and his war years left an indelible impression upon him concerning the human need for blood. He was so affected that he began giving blood in the Service, and continued so doing until his death. Bill gave over 100 gallons of his blood so that others could live, and at the time of his death he had given more blood than any other person in this great state.
Above all, Bill’s favorite passion was spending time with his loving family. Besides his wife he is survived by his three sons and their wives, Craig and Nancy Lanzoni of Old Greenwich; Dennis and Michele Lanzoni of Wallingford; and Keith and Tina Lanzoni of Annapolis, MD; and five grandchildren: William, Benjamin, Chelsea, Gabrielle, and Garrett.
