Mr. William Galen Hoxie, 93, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine formerly of Winsted and Cheshire, died Monday November 9, 2009 at the Hospital of Central Connecticut at Bradley Memorial in Southington. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Morrison) Hoxie.
Mr. Hoxie was born January 28, 1916 in Orneville, Maine a son of the late George E. and Hattie (Cross) Hoxie. He was educated in Hudson, Maine schools and was a Motor Vehicle Inspector for the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles retiring after many years of service. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of St. Andrew Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Winsted. He was also a member of the Eagles Club of Winsted and the American Legion of Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Mr. Hoxie was a Second Lieutenant in the US Army serving during WW II.
He leaves his son William J. Hoxie of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, his daughters, Jane Quinn and Jean Madden both of Cheshire, 12 grandchildren, John Quinn, Joan Q. Mercado, Lonnie Quinn, Jeffrey Quinn, Melissa Quinn, Jack Hoxie, Tracey Hagelgan, Darrell Hoxie, Heather Mazzola, Peter Madden, Alec Madden and Dennis Madden, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Jack Hoxie and his grandchildren Dana Rothacker and Robert Quinn.
Funeral services for Mr. Hoxie will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Slater Funeral Home 242 South Main Street in Cheshire. Burial with military honors will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
