CHESHIRE - William P. Higgins, 94, formerly of Moss Lane, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was the husband of the late Teresa C. (Gannon) Higgins.
Mr. Higgins was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 7, 1918, the son of the late Christopher and Mary (Flannery) Higgins. He worked as policeman in NYC, retiring in 1967 as a Detective in the Narcotics Squad after 25 years. After his retirement from NYPD he worked as an Instructor at the Meriden Police Academy for seven years. He served his country in the U.S. Army in WW II in the Army Corps of Engineers and following as a reserve officer for 25 years retiring as a Major. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes in Boca Raton, FL.
Mr. Higgins is survived by his daughter Ellen Papa of Cheshire; his son Gregory Higgins of Bayside, NY; his son Terence Higgins of Waterbury, his grandchildren Kyle, Christopher and Michael Rowe, Brian Higgins, Jennifer Elias, Sean and Glen Higgins, Caroline Fazio and Christopher Higgins; his great grandchildren Tyler and Mackenzie Higgins, Jack, Grace, Aidan and Tristan Rowe, Ryan and Caitlin Elias and Dylan Fazio; a niece Eileen Guyette and many nephews. He is predeceased by his son, Kevin Higgins; as well as his sister Helen Nicholson, and his brothers, Christopher and Kevin Higgins.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 23, 2013 9:15 A.M from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in the State Veteran's Cemetery, Bow Lane in Middletown. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
