PORTSMOUTH, NH -William J. Hayes, 84, passed away October 21, 2010 in Northborough, MA.
Mr. Hayes was born August 27, 1926 in Waterbury the son of the late William and Molly (Sheehy) Hayes Sr. He moved from Waterbury at the age of six to Springfield, MA where he was raised by his maternal aunt and uncle Bertha and John Gleeson, after the death of his parents. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield in 1944 and from Boston University in 1950 where he obtained his degree in Business Administration. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Hayes worked for the Federal Government for 35 years in the Office of Personnel Management. He has been a resident of Portsmouth, NH for the last 35 years.
Mr. Hayes his survived by his son William Hayes and his wife Lori of Burlington, MA; his daughter Maureen Cathcart and her husband Paul of Sterling, MA; his daughter-in-law Patti Ann Hayes of Ludlow, MA; his sister Margaret Breck of Leonardtown, MD; his five grandchildren Michael Cathcart, Meghan Richardson and her husband David, Elizabeth Hayes, Matthew Hayes, and Molly Hayes.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Monday October 25, 2010 10:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave., to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in New St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday morning from 9:30 until the procession leaves for church.
