William Henry Birdsell, Army Veteran
NIANTIC - William Henry Birdsell, “Bill” 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 7, 2015, at the Bride Brook Rehabilitation and Health Center in Niantic. He was the beloved husband of Mabel (Ungemack) Birdsell for 69 years.
Bill was born in Greenwich CT on November 14, 1922, son of the late Chester and Johanna (Koehlert) Birdsell. He attended Greenwich High School, entered the Army in WWII and returned to Greenwich to work at Greenwich Hardware. He was an avid bowler, scoring a perfect 300 game; an ardent golfer, scoring a hole in one and was a lifelong enthusiastic NY Yankee fan. He lived all his life in Greenwich until 10 years ago when they moved to Niantic.
Bill is survived by a son, William Birdsell, Jr. and his wife, Regina Sullivan Birdsell of Old Lyme; a grandson, Scott Birdsell and his wife, Natalee and their son, Connor Birdsell of North Carolina. He is also survived by a sister in law, Trudy Ungemack of Armonk, NY, and a sister in law, Clem Ungemack of North Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
In honoring his wishes, there will be no formal services. Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck is assisting with arrangements.
