CHESHIRE - William “Bill” F. Yocher, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Elaine (Stollar) Yocher. Bill was born on March 3, 1935, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Frederick and Mary (Hubbell) Yocher.
Bill graduated Hamden High School in 1954. He retired from the Cheshire Public Schools as Outside Grounds Foreman and previously worked for Guida’s Dairy and the Cheshire Reformatory. Bill was a proud Lifetime Member of the Cheshire Fire Department. He also served his country with honor as a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Bill was a lifelong Cheshire resident and relished spending 17 winters following retirement at his home in Ocala, Florida. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting model trucks, walking, traveling, and spending many summers camping in New Hampshire. Bill was an avid fan of UConn Women’s Basketball and the New England Patriots. A kind and gentle soul, he loved his family and the simple pleasures of life. Bill was a quiet man who could say a lot with a shrug, smirk or a smile.
Along with his wife of almost 59 years, Bill is survived by his daughter Karen Yocher and her partner Maura Montagano of Prospect, CT, his son Todd William Yocher of San Diego, CA, and many dear friends.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all of Bill’s health care angels at Midstate Medical Center, at home, and from Franciscan Hospice Care.
