Burlington - Edward William Wehner, Jr. formerly of Naugatuck lost his heroic battle of many years against Sclera-derma on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Amberwoods of Farmington surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Margaret-Ellen (Kearney) Wehner.
Mr. Wehner was born on February 15, 1937 in New Haven a son of the late Edward William Sr. and Dorothy (Lyons) Wehner. He was retired from the First National Grocery Store where he worked as a manager for many years. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. He was an Army Veteran having served during the Vietnam War. "Mr. Ed" was active in the Peter J. Foley girls softball league as coach and board member for many years. During his retirement Ed enjoyed craft shows and performing in fundraisers for children as the beloved “Mister Buttons". Eddie was an active member of the Burlington Senior Center and editor of the "Burlington Bee".
Besides his beloved wife of 47 years, Eddie is survived by his two daughters, Mary Jean (Wehner) Lombardi and her fiancé Jeffrey R. Harris of Burlington and Donna Lee (Wehner) Saccu and her husband Daniel S. Saccu, Jr. of Bristol and several nieces and one nephew.
He was predeceased by his younger brother James Wehner.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave, New Haven. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.
