Cheshire - Walter H. O’Halloran, born in West Orange, NJ, September 15, 1924, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the VITAS unit at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Jean Ann (Byrne) O’Halloran, his wife of 60 years whom he will be reunited with after 8 years.
Long-time resident of Cheshire, CT and a communicant of St. Bridget’s church, Walter proudly served his country during World War II in the Army Air-Corp as a Navigator aboard a B17 Bomber; stationed in England where he successfully flew 32 missions over Western Europe. Following the war, Walter returned home to attend Seton Hall University and begin his profession in manufacturing.
Walter worked his entire career at Scovill Manufacturing, which later became Century Brass, Inc. where he was appointed President before retiring after 34 years of service. Prior to retirement, Walter was a member of the Board of Directors at St Mary’s Hospital, as well as the Board of the former Colonial Bank in Waterbury.
He will always be remembered as a kind gentleman and loving father, grandfather and husband. Walter is survived by his children and their spouses, Barbara O. Powers and her husband William of Taunton, MA, John S. O’Halloran and his wife Kathy of Cheshire and Mary Lou O’Connor and her husband John of Cheshire, eight grandchildren; Brian J. Bishop, Stephen M. Bishop (Nikki), Matthew W. Powers (Colleen), Katelyn J. O’Connor, Brendan M. O’Connor, Alexandra O’Halloran, Sean M. O’Halloran, Emily O’Halloran; two great grandchildren, Kaden J. Shattuck and Spencer M. Bishop and 11 loving nieces and nephews. Most recently, Walter lived at Elim Park, in Cheshire where he enjoyed the friendship of many dear new and old friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his two sons, Michael B. O’Halloran (1980) and Walter M. O’Halloran (2009); his only brother John. D. O’Halloran, Glastonbury, CT; his sister and brother in laws Marie and Edwin Schwarz, Melbourne, FL; Joan and Eugene Rafter, Sea Girt, NJ; and Bette and Stephen Byrne, Pompton Plains, NJ. He is survived by one sister -in-law, Mary B. O’Halloran, Glastonbury, CT.
Arrangements: Friends may visit at Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main Street (Route 10) Cheshire on Sunday, July 6 from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. Family and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass at St. Bridget’s Church on Monday, July 7 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Bridget’s Cemetery, Cheshire.
