CHESHIRE - Walter "Wally" J. Adams, 91, passed away Tuesday March 13, 2012 at Masonicare in Wallingford. He was the husband of the late Sophie A. Adams.
Mr. Adams was born August 22, 1920 in New Haven, the son of the late Stephen and Louise Adamczyk. He graduated from Commercial High School in New Haven and was a WWII Veteran Serving in the U.S. Marine Corp. in the Pacific Region. He had been a Cheshire resident since 1968 where he was a member of St. Bridget Church. In 1985, after 40 years of service, he retired from Marlin Firearms Company where he was the Director of Personnel.
He was very active with sports especially with Fast pitch Softball where he was inducted into the American Softball Hall of Fame. He was known for his career pitching average from 1946 to 1956 of 373 wins and only 42 loses. In 1972 he was the National Duckpin Singles Champion.
Mr. Adams is survived by his two daughters Sandra Finkelstein and her husband Murray of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Patricia Gray and her husband Scottie of Cheshire; his granddaughter Annamaria "Mia" Memery and her husband Robert of Cheshire; his brother Edward Adamczyk of Northford. He is predeceased by his brothers John, Joseph, Michael, Stanley, Theodore and his sister Florence Wolczek.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Friday from 12:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 12 noon until the funeral procession leaves for church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masonicare Home Health and Hospice 33 N. Plains Industrial Road, Wallingford, CT 06492.
