NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Viva S. (Pixley) (Reed) Brockman-Harris,84, of 262 North Main St., Union City Section of Naugatuck, passed away Thursday evening Dec. 17, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was the wife of Albert Harris and the widow of George Brockman.

Vi was born in New Haven, January 21, 1925 a daughter of the late James and Viva (Sailsbury) Pixley and was educated in the Naugatuck school system and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School. She received her Associates Degree and Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Tiekyo Post University. She was employed during her life time at Pratt and Whitney- East Hartford Plant, Conn. Dept of Labor-Waterbury Office, and New Opportunities, Inc. of Waterbury.

Vi was active with the Opportunities Industrialization Center of Waterbury, now called the Joseph Jaynes Center of Waterbury were she was the former Chairperson of the Board of Directors. She was a member and former Worthy Counselor and Worthy Register of Deeds of Naomi Court # 18 and was one of the original and chartered Sisters since 1962. She was a member of the Grand Court Order of Calanthe for the Conn. Jurisdiction and had served as Grand District Deputy. She was also an active member of Calistro Chapter # 4 Order of the Eastern Star of Waterbury, having served as Past Matron. She was a member of Clock City Temple # 895and a member of the Past Grand Ruler Council of the Grand Temple I.B.P.O.E. of the World

Active in Borough government, she was Director of Energy Assistance for a number of years, and had served as Municipal Agent for the Elderly and was a former member of the Elder Commission.

Her volunteer work included the Western Conn. Area Agency on Aging of Waterbury and the United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls, where she was the recipient of the Mary H. Connolly Community Caring Award in 2005.

Besides her husband of 18 years, she leaves,two sons, Joseph W. Reed, and Douglas W. Reed both of Phoenix, AZ, one step-son Stanley Brockman of Waterbury; two grandchildren, Elyse Reed and Alec Reed and two great-grandchildren, Jordon Reed and Elyse Reed. She was predeceased by a step-son, Gerald Brockman and a brother, James Pixley

Funeral services will be held on Monday Dec. 28th at 10:30 am at the Congregational Church of Naugatuck, 9 Division St. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. (RT 63) on Sunday Dec. 27th from 3 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be may be made to the Congregational Church of Naugatuck, 9 Division St., Naugatuck, 06770.
