BROOKFIELD- Mrs. Virginia (Rowlands) Travis, 94, of Brookfield, passed away Thursday afternoon Dec. 9, 2010 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of L. Earl Travis who passed away in 1972 after 32 years of marriage. Mrs. Travis was born in Minneapolis, Minn. a daughter of the late Richard Allison Rowlands and Gertrude Helen (Neyhard) Rowlands and was educated in the public schools of Schenectady, NY graduating from High School in 1934. She attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in New York City, graduating in 1937 as a registered Nurse. She worked in various hospitals and Doctors offices concluding a 40 + year career as a registered nurse at Danbury Hospital in 1978. She was a 50 year life member of Corlear Chapter # 528 Order of the Eastern Star, now Beukendaal-George Hope Chapter # 271, O.E.S. She was also a member of the Foundation of New York Nurses Assoc. and St. Luke's Hospital Alumni Assoc. She leaves her son, Richard Vernon Travis of Brookfield, with whom she made her home, and several nephews and grand-nephews and their wives and children. Funeral services will be held on Sunday Dec. 12, 2010 at 7 pm at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 2201 Meadow St. Committal services will be on Monday at 11 am in the Chapel of Memory Garden Cemetery, Albany, NY, with interment to follow.
