Cheshire - Virginia McCurdy, 98, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family members, on Friday, December 31, 2021, at MidState Medical Center, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William McCurdy, a Cheshire resident since 1963 and a communicant of St. Thomas Becket Church – St. Bridget of Sweden Parish since 1970.
Mrs. McCurdy was born on April 28, 1923, in New Britain, the daughter of the late Joseph and Harriet (Cosgrove) Stagis. The family moved to Hamden when she was five years old. Upon graduation from Hamden High and Larsen’s Business college, she worked as a secretary in New Haven until her marriage in 1956.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Virginia graciously volunteered through the Mount Carmel Women’s Club, Girl Scouts, and church. Her hobbies included skiing, gardening, needlework, and spending time at the beach. She was never more delighted than when in the presence of her granddaughters and was thrilled to be able to attend Laura and Zachary’s wedding this past summer.
Mrs. McCurdy is survived by her daughter Elizabeth Chotkowski and her husband Paul of Farmington; her grandchildren Sarah Chotkowski of Nantucket and Laura Fyfe and her husband Zachary of North Attleboro, a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sister Irene Hall and her brother-in-law Roger Hall.
Arrangements - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 7, 2022, at 11 am at St. Thomas Becket Church – St. Bridget of Sweden Parish, 435 N. Brooksvale Rd., Cheshire. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Hamden. The Alderson-Ford Funeral home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
