Cheshire ' Vincent A. Paterno, 81, of Cheshire, passed away February 1, 2010 at his home after a long and courageous battle. He was the husband of Astrid (Omholt) Paterno.
Mr. Paterno was born October 25, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Vito and Accursia (Bentevegna) Paterno. He was a longtime Cheshire resident who worked for Newcomb Spring Corp. in Southington until his retirement in the early 90's. He was known by his family for his love of Giants Football; UCONN Basketball and Brooklyn Dodgers/Mets baseball. He also enjoyed playing tennis and golf. Vinny was a friend to all God's creatures great and small.
Besides his wife of 57 years, Mr. Paterno is survived by his sons Joseph Paterno and his wife Michelle of Amherst, NY, Greg Paterno of Cheshire and Al Paterno of Cheshire and his three grandchildren, Joshua of NYC and Vincent and Tony of Amherst, NY. He was predeceased by his only brother Joseph in WWII.
Arrangements ' Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 6, 2010, 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main Street to St. Thomas Becket Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
