Vilma Hague

Cheshire – Vilma Swanson Hague, 84, passed away Friday, November 9, 2018, at her home. She was the widow of Charles J. Hague, who predeceased her in 2014, after 58 years of marriage.

Vilma was born June 2, 1934, in New York City, a daughter of the late Walter and Hanna (Nielsen) Swanson. Her family later moved to the Morris Cove section of New Haven. Vilma was a 1952 graduate of Wilbur Cross High School and New Haven State Teachers College (later Southern Connecticut State University), graduating in 1956. It was there that she met her future husband. Upon graduation, Vilma secured a teaching position in Cheshire, where she taught for 25 years. After her marriage, and the start of her family, they moved to Cheshire in 1959. She later went on to get her Master’s Degree and subsequently returned to teaching. It was a career that she dearly loved and continued until her retirement in 1993.

After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed travelling. Later, they bought a condominium in Naples, Florida, where they loved playing golf. Sometime later, they purchased a home on Cape Cod, where their children and grandchildren have fond memories.

Vilma is survived by her children: Charlie, Jr. (Sue) of Cheshire, Richard (Lisa) of Wayland, MA, and Kristin Gallagher (Rick) of Litchfield; her wonderful grandchildren: Lauren Hague (Austin), Emily Hague, Caroline Hague, Jason Hague (Jess), Alyssa Hague, Kyle Gallagher, and Colin Gallagher. She also leaves her sister, Florence Anderson and many nieces and a nephew and their families. She will surely be missed by all of her dear friends.
