Naugatuck-Frances Cecilia (Smegelski) Tully, 90, formerly of 5 Highland Ave, widow of James E.Tully, Sr. died Thursday evening, October 21, 2010 at the Glendale Healthcare Center after a long illness.
Mrs. Tully was born on November 22, 1919 in Waterbury a daughter of the late Leo and Mary Ann (Burkoski) Smegelski. She was a former employee of the CT Water Co. and Risdon Manufacturing Co. She was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and attended Post College. During World War II, she was one of the first five women to be inducted into the Women’s' Marine Corps. As a staff sergeant stationed in Philadelphia, she was in charge of the selling of war bonds and recruitment Frances was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
She is survived by one son, James E. Tully Jr. and his wife Bonnie of Southbury, one daughter, Frances Haywood and her husband William of Naugatuck, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter Barbara Jean Tully.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church Street, Naugatuck friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck are in charge of the arrangements.
