Thomas “Tom” D. Thorne, age 84, of Cheshire passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at MidState Medical Center in Meriden. He was the devoted husband of Mary Marie (Monastero) Thorne for over 62 years. Tom was born on January 5, 1937 in Bridgeport, son of the late Roderick and Lorraine (Morgan) Thorne.
Tom grew up in Bridgeport and attended Fairfield College Preparatory School, before serving his country with honor and pride in the US Army. Tom exemplified the meaning of entrepreneurship. Following his discharge from the Army and working for several agencies in the food industry, Tom elected to branch out on his own. With little more than a strong work ethic and determination to succeed, Tom founded Lazzari, Thorne and Messina in Cheshire. When an opportunity presented itself to expand beyond Connecticut, Tom became a founding partner in Buckley, Thorne, Messina, a premier food brokerage company in Natick, MA, servicing the entire Northeast market. Tom retired in December of 1998 to spend more time with the “love of his life”, Mary (Marie). It was then that Tom began to relax and enjoy family, friends, golf and travel.
He is the beloved father of Craig Thorne and his wife, Beverly of Cheshire, and Kellie (Thorne)LaRonde and her husband, David of Cheshire. Tom is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Jacqueline (Tom) Richard, Emily (Josh) Kramer, Craig Thorne, Jr. and Colin Thorne; his siblings, Roderick Thorne of Bridgewater, Sr. Ann Thorne of Ramsey, NJ, David (Terry) Thorne of Great Barrington, MA and Maureen (Bobby) Burmann of Bridgewater; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, William “Bill” Thorne.
Friends are invited to greet Tom’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 So. Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06410 on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 from 5PM until 7PM.
