Miss Thelma B. Zackin, 102, of 355 Bloomfield Ave., West Hartford, died Sunday November 29, 2009 at the Hebrew Home and Hospital, West Hartford.
Miss Zackin was born in Waterbury, May 29, 1907, a daughter of the late Louis and Dora (Brody) Zackin and was a resident of Waterbury for most of her life until moving to West Hartford. She was educated in the Waterbury schools system and was a graduate of New York University, Class of 1927. She was a former Teacher at Crosby High School and was officer manager and a saleswomen with the family business, Louis Zackin & Co. During WW II, she was a volunteer driver for the Red Cross. In her retirement years, she volunteered for Hadassah two days a week in their National Headquarters in New York City. She was a member of B'Nai Shalom Synagogue.
She leaves 35 nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by 5 brothers, Isador Zackin, Jonas Zackin, Samuel Zackin, Solomon Zackin, and Ralph Zackin and one sister, Henrietta Zackin
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday Dec. 1, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Workman's Circle Cemetery, Stillson Rd., Waterbury. Shiva will be observed at the home of her nephew, Nelson Zackin, 109 Stony Brook Rd., Middlebury on Tuesday afternoon and evening. The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave. is in charge of arrangements.
