NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Teresa Mary (Wersig) Mellon., 96, formerly of North Spring St. Naugatuck, died Thursday June 4, 2009 at the Middlebury Convalescent Home. She was the widow of James B. Mellon who died in Battle in Belgium during World War II.

Mrs. Mellon was born in Naugauck, Oct. 18, 1912, a daughter of the late Richard and Selina (Moran) Wersig and was a lifelong Naugatuck resident. She was a graduate of Naugatuck High School, class of 1930, and was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She was a former member of the Naugatuck Council of Catholic Women and the Naugatuck Chapter # 495, American Association of Retired Persons, and the Senior Women's Friendship Club. During her later years she enjoyed playing Bingo with her friends.

Her family would like to thank the Staff of the Middlebury Convalescent Home for their wonderful care during the last 5 years of her stay at the Nursing Home. They would also like to thank the staff of Vitas Innovative Hospice of Middlebury for their care.

She leaves one son, Richard J. Mellon of Middlebury, one granddaughter, Julie Modeen of Middlebury and one great-grandson, Benjamin Modeen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday June 9th at 11 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Friends are asked to meet directly at church prior to mass. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis School Foundation, P.O. Box 292, Naugatuck, 06779-0292.
