Antonio Teixeira Sr

Naugatuck, CT Antonio D. Teixeira, Sr., 88, husband of Amelia Teixeira, died September 29, 2022 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Tony was born January 1, 1934 in Estarreja, Portugal son of the late Eduardo and Amalia (DaSilva) Teixeira. Tony was educated in Portugal, he joined the Portuguese Navy and was a volunteer firefighter in Estarreja. Tony met and fell in love with Amelia Brandoa and they married on September 8, 1957, raised 3 children and have been married for 65 years.

Tony moved to America and settled in Naugatuck, CT in 1966. He retired from Risdon Manufacturing, where he worked for 30 years. After retiring, he served his community as a volunteer crossing guard at Hillside Middle School. Tony loved watching his favorite Benfica Soccer Team on television and watching Portuguese cultural programs on RTP1 television. Tony was a former trainer for the Naugatuck Sporting Club in Naugatuck.

In addition to Amelia, his wife of 65 years, Tony is survived by his son and daughter in law, Antonio D. Teixeira, Jr. and Laura Teixeira of Naugatuck; his son, Jose Teixeira of Northfield; his daughter in law, Dalila Teixeira of Waterbury; his grandchildren, Maria Shannon and her husband, Ryan of Cheshire, Victoria Teixeira and Antonio Teixeira both of Waterbury; his sister, Ana Rosa DaSilva of Naugatuck; his nephews, Antonio DaSilva of Naugatuck and Vasco DaSilva of Waterbury and his niece, Lena DeMelo of Estarreja, Portugal. In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his son, Victor H. Teixeira; his brother, Vasco Teixeira and his sister, Angelina De Oliveria.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Everyone attending is asked to please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours are Monday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers and to honor Tony’s memory, contributions are requested to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin Street, Waterbury, CT 06706.
