Sue E. Chatfield, 81, of Hamden, formerly of Cheshire, wife of the late Rev. Dr. John Afman, Jr., passed away peacefully after a long illness on August 14, 2024. Sue was born on July 11, 1943, in Derby, CT to the late Horace and Marion Chatfield.
Sue was a devoted teacher for many years in the Cheshire Public School System. She retired when she became a grandmother, a title she loved even more than teacher. Sue was simply the best Mimi who spent time playing, reading, cuddling, and having wonderful adventures with her 7 grandchildren. Sue was fully immersed in the Cheshire community, being involved in activities around town and at her church, First Congregational. She and her late husband, John, traveled together for years, enjoying many beautiful destinations and shared the most wonderful stories and hundreds of photos after each trip.
Sue leaves behind her son, Jeffrey Foote and his wife, Colleen; stepchildren, Dane Afman, Mindy Shoals, Heather (James) Wichman and Sarah (Mark) Beckman; grandchildren, Jillian Foote, Talan and Holden Beckman, Christopher and Alyssa Shoals, and Cassidy and Riley Wichman; and her brother, John Chatfield. In addition to her parents and loving husband Sue was predeceased by her brothers, David Chatfield and James Chatfield.
The family would like to especially thank the caring staff at Meadow Mills Assisted Living and Memory Care in Hamden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd S., #4B, Southington, CT 06489 or online.
A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Dr., Cheshire, CT. Burial will immediately follow at the church columbarium. Arrangements are in the care of the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home, 615 South Main St., Cheshire, CT.
