Naugatuck-Mrs. Helen T. (Arnatavicius) Stockunas, 96, of 428 Horton Hill Rd, widow of George Stockunas died peacefully March 26, 2013 at the VITAS Unit at St. Mary's Hospital, Waterbury, CT.
Mrs. Stockunas was born in Waterbury on October 20, 1916 she was the youngest of seven children and daughter of the late Michael and Magdalene Arnatavicius. Helen lived most of her life in Naugatuck, growing up on the family farm on Horton Hill Rd. She retired from Uniroyal in 1972 after over 30 years of employment. She spent her retirement gardening, doing crafts and going to tag sales. She enjoyed cooking and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed corresponding with friends and relatives all over the country and until the time of her death she was known for her beautiful penmanship.
She is survived by a son, Edward Stockunas and his wife Susan of Nordland, WA, and a daughter Sharon Sprague and her husband Ken of Naugatuck, five grandchildren, Kim SanAngelo and her husband Andrew of Naugatuck, Kristin Malpee and her husband Simeon of Las Vegas, NV, Lauren Stockunas of Portland, OR, and Peter Stockunas of Bellingham, WA, four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Perugini of Naugatuck, Tara Caparulo of Southbury, Matthew SanAngelo of Naugatuck and Alyssa San Angelo of Naugatuck. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren, Kenneth Sprague and David Sprague.
Funeral services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck is in charge of the arrangements.
