CHESHIRE - Stephen W. Mrowka, 80, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Carmel (Celano) Mrowka.
Mr. Mrowka was born May 5, 1938 in New Haven, the son of the late Stephen J. and Victoria (Suskiewicz) Mrowka. He was a graduate of Wilbur L. Cross High School, class of 1956. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from SCSU in 1962, a Master’s in Education from SCSU in 1966, a Master’s in Earth Science from Oregon State University in 1969, and a seventh year in Planetarium Education from Michigan State University in 1971. He was an associate professor in the Earth Sciences at SCSU from 1966 - 1969. He was also a lecturer in methods of presenting chemistry using computers at Quinnipiac University from 1987 to 1994.
He was a retired Chemistry and Earth Science teacher at Cheshire High School and served as a football, baseball and ice hockey coach over a span of 39 years. After his retirement in 2001, he served on the Cheshire Board of Education until 2013 and from 1977 until 1997, he worked for Connecticut Limousine as a driver. From 1962 until 1992, he officiated high school and college football, baseball and soccer.
Besides his wife of 59 years, Mr. Mrowka was the proud father of Peter S. Mrowka (Amanda) of Duxbury, MA, William F. Mrowka (Colleen) of Cheshire, CT, Stephen L. Mrowka (Jennifer) of Burke, VA, James J. Mrowka (DeLinda) of San Mateo, CA, Jennifer Dargue (James) of Burke, VA. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Kate, Cooper, Buddy, Maggie, Xavier, Jimmy, Billy, Caleigh, Oliver, Mack, Wyatt, Lauren, and Jake; his aunt Edna Mrowka of New Haven, CT and uncle Rev. Chester Mrowka of Manchester, CT. Besides his parents, Mr. Mrowka is predeceased by his son Stephen Jr.
Arrangements – Funerals services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018, 8:15 from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Thomas Becket Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 9:00 am. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in All Saints Cemetery N. Haven. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
