WILTON- Sondra Kohler, 87, passed away with her caring daughter at her side, on Friday October 14, 2016 at Wilton Meadows Healthcare Center in Wilton, CT. She was the loving and devoted wife of Cornelius “Connie” Kohler whom she was married to for fifty seven years.
Mrs. Kohler was born on December 26, 1928 in Bridgeport, CT and was the daughter of the late Herman and Etta (Nabel) Kraut.
Sondra was a graduate of the American School for the Deaf, where she also was a member of the Women’s Travel Basketball Team starting as Point Guard. In 1955 Sondra won First Prize representing her employer The Borden Mitchell Dairy Company, at the Lady in Waiting to the Queen Contest held during the Coronation Ball, the main evening celebration of the Bridgeport Barnum Festival. That summer Sondra was an honored guest at all Barnum Festival events including the Barnum Festival Parade. Among her many prizes was a 10 day trip to Bermuda.
Besides her husband Mrs. Kohler is survived by her daughter Lisa and her husband Howard Chubinsky of Wilton, CT; and two grandsons Michael Chubinsky of New York City and Eric Chubinsky of Wilton, CT. She was predeceased by her brother Jacob Kraut, and her sisters Harriet Gerstl and Freda Kraut.
Arrangements- A Graveside Service for Sondra will be held 11 A.M, Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, Wallingford Road, 06410. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the cemetery. Burial will follow after the service. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main St, 06410, is assisting with the arrangements. Donations in her name may be made to the American School for the Deaf, 139 N Main St, West Hartford, CT 06107.
