WATERBURY - Mrs. Lorayne A. (Williams) Smith, age 88, of Waterbury, formerly of Oxford, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, in the VITAS Hospice Unit at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was the widow of Lawrence R. Smith.

Mrs. Smith was born in New Haven on Oct. 19, 1924, a daughter of the late Walter and Sadie (Geer) Williams. She worked for many years as a housekeeper for several prominent families in the area and loved animals.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Walter Smith Sr. and his wife, Donna, of Waterbury, with whom she made her home, and Lawrence Smith; a sister, Ruth Thompson of East Haven; a brother, Walter Williams of Guilford; nine grandchildren, Kathy Taylor, Richard Smith, Karen Giroux, Gina Leining-Smith, Walter Smith Jr., Alicia St. John, Douglas Smith, Jennifer Membrino and Matthew Rosenbeck; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Vreeland and Beatrice Paradis, and a grandson, Christopher Smith.

Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, is in charge of arrangements.
