Harriet Smith

Prospect – Harriet E. Smith, 82, passed away on May 28, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of the late Harold Smith to whom she was happily married for 43 years.

Harriet was born on May 17, 1929 in Waterbury and was the daughter of the late Charles N. and Hattie B. (Harrold) Smith.

Harriet is survived by a daughter, Carol Smith and her husband, Andrew Spagnoletti of Wolcott, and a son Stephen R. Smith. In addition, she leaves a brother-in-law Harry A. Cable of Lakeside, a step-grandson Shaun-Michael Hart of Wolcott, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Harold Smith and two sisters Elsie Montgomery and Eunice Cable.

Harriet loved being a homemaker. She took much pride in her home and found great joy in caring for her family. Harriet was an avid baker and loved to share her delicious homemade pastries with everyone in her life, especially the children, who fondly referred to her as “Auntie Smith.”

In addition, Harriet loved nature. In years past, she could often be found outdoors, either gardening or hiking with her friends in the Valley Vagabonds. She also enjoyed canoeing and would often spend time on Connecticut waterways with her family and friends.

Harriet was also a member of the Prospect Congregational Church, where, in past years, she served as the Church treasurer, the President of the Evening Women’s Association, and as a Sunday school teacher.

A memorial service to celebrate Harriet’s life will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 7 P.M. at the Prospect Congregational Church. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home in Prospect is in care of the arrangements.
