NAUGATUCK- Mrs. Shirley (Waterhouse) Sandora, 85 formerly of Naugatuck, passed away early Thursday morning at the Apple Rehab in Middletown. She was the widow of Theodore L Sandora.
Shirley was born in Waterbury, Dec. 28, 1928, a daughter of the late Frank Waterhouse and the late Ethel (Adams) (Waterhouse) Long and was educated in the Naugatuck school system and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School, class of 1946. She was employed by Uniroyal-Chemical Division for 47 years, retiring in 1994. She had been a resident of Woodbridge for over 45 years, moving to Seymour in 1999. She then moved to Village at East Farms in Waterbury in 2008, and then to Luther Ridge in Middletown later in 2008.
She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and was a member of the Choir for over 67 years. She had served as a Liturgical Assistant and Eucharistic Minister and had been a member of the Episcopal Church Women, and the Altar Guild and had been an active volunteer with the parishes’ “Village Green Fair” since its inception. She was also a former member of the Naugatuck Woman’s Club and the Naugatuck Garden Club. She loved flowers and was an avid gardener and bowler. She enjoyed football and was a staunch supporter of UCONN’s Women’s Basketball.
She leave one niece, Dawn Smith and her husband Jeff of Northfield and one nephew, Edward Schrull and his wife Annie of Chattanooga, TN; and several great-nieces and great- nephews, including Tyson (Laura) Smith of Houston, TX, Brett (Stacie) Smith of Farmington, Melissa (Brandon) Smith of Livermore, CA, Kristin (Paul) Gale of New Orleans, LA and Dustin Schrull of Chattanooga, TN. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased a son, Gregory and a daughter Leslie.
Her funeral will be held on Monday Sept. 8, 2014 at 9:30 am from the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. and proceed to St. Michael’s Episcopal Church for a service at 10 am. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Cross St., Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday morning from 9 am until the procession leaves for church.
