WATERBURY- Miss Shirley Ann Stock "sis", 76, of Waterbury passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital. Everyone knew her for her baking and cooking. She said she was an unclaimed treasure.
Miss Stock was born in Waterbury on May 3, 1936 a daughter of the late George T. Stock and Williamina (Ross) Stock. She worked for S.N.E.T/ AT&T for 38 years. She helped start and was an active member of The Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of the Daughters of Scotia.
She was predeceased by a sister Edith (Day) Hojnacki. She leaves beloved nieces and nephews. Shirley A. Blanchard, her namesake, who took care of her for ten years, and Irene Blanchard with whom she made her home. Her favorite niece Margaret Vaccarelli and husband Frank, their children Heather and Brian Vaccarelli, Niece Lori Daley and her husband Fred Daley, Niece Cindy Hojnacki, Nephew Gene "Gino" Blanchard and wife Elizabeth Blanchard, Nephew Walter "Wally" Blanchard, Nephew Anthony "Tony" Blanchard. A few great nieces and nephews, and her best friend of forty six years Charlotte Gowlis who was by her side at the end.
Shirley dedicated her life to taking care of her mom for twenty two years. Shirley loved children and helped raise most of her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. We will miss you Big Aunt Shirl!
The family would like to thank St. Mary's Hospital Xavier 3 staff and the E.R staff for the special care they gave Shirley in her final days.
Arrangements- A service for Shirley will be held 4 P.M Thursday April 25, 2013 at The Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave, 06710. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her name may be made to American Diabetes Association, 306 Industrial Park Rd #105, Middletown, CT 06457 or National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016.
