Naugatuck - Mrs. Frances E. (Martin) Schmelcke, age 81, of 117 Cold Spring Circle, died Friday May 28,2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. She was the widow of William H. Schmelcke Sr.
Mrs. Schmelcke was born in New York City, N.Y. on May 27,1929 a daughter of the late Waldo E. and Yvonne (Forget) Martin and spent her childhood in North Carolina and Waterbury, CT. She was retired as a seamstress and also worked for many years as a tax preparer for H&R Block. She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Naugatuck and was a member of the Southbury Guild and the Circus Fans Association. She had a sincere love for abandoned animals having fostered and rescued many feral cats.
Mrs. Schmelcke is survived by her five daughters: Linda H. Durbin and her husband Brian of Memphis, TN, Dorothy E. Constantino and her husband Vincent of Watertown, Carolyn L. Raming of Prospect, Mary A. Schmelcke and her husband Alan J. Commendatore of Naugatuck, and Brenda J. Schiaroli and her husband Joseph of Waterbury, her daughter in law: Susan Schmelcke of Naugatuck and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son: William H. Schmelcke Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday June 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church 170 Coen St. Naugatuck. Family and friends are asked to please meet directly at the church. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery in Naugatuck at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 82 Fairview Ave. Naugatuck is in charge of arrangements.
