Gustave A. Schebell
1931-2024
Waterbury, CT To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose into heaven. On a brilliant blue autumn day, the soul of Gus Schebell began the next step on it’s journey.
Gustave Arthur Schebell of Waterbury, was born on October 30, 1931 in Marlborough, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late Gustave Schebell and Mary (Caruso) Schebell. He grew up in Orange, CT with his sister Anita and brothers Neal and Ted. After graduating from Hillhouse High School in New Haven, CT he worked at various jobs in the floor covering business.
Gus never failed to excite and command an energy that clearly took place only when he was in the room.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife Betty to many places in the United States, the islands and overseas. They even took a special trip to Egypt. In later years they went on several cruises and made bi-annual trips to one of his favorite places, Lago Mar in Florida. They enjoyed the company of friends on many of these trips.
He is survived by his loving wife Betty (Oemcke) Schebell, his much loved cats, Gracie and Cheddar and many other family members.
Gus had great reverence for the earth and all things on it. To honor his memory take some time to respect nature. Feed the birds and other animals. Sow some seeds or maybe plant a tree. He also had great joy in music, loved to sing and played several instruments.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd S, #4b, Southington, CT 06489 or to the Resident Council at Countryside Manor of Bristol, 1660 Stafford Avenue, Bristol, CT 06010.
Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body… but rather skid in sideways, totally worn out shouting “holy crap…what a ride!”
A celebration of Gus’s life will be held in the spring. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck, CT.
