Victoria Schaefer

Victoria Ann Schaefer, 68, wife of the late Frederick P. Schaefer Jr., died peacefully after a brief illness on July 14, 2015, at VITAS Health Care at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Victoria was born August 19, 1946 in Waterbury, CT a daughter of the late Alphonse and Victoria (Adamski) Alencynowicz. She grew up in Prospect, moved to Bridgeport in the early years of her marriage, and later moved to Wolcott where she raised her family.
At an early age, she displayed enormous potential to be a gifted artist. She was enrolled in the Fine Arts Program and graduated from Paier School of Art, studying under Rudolph Zalinger and Deanne Keller of the Art Students League of NY. She went on to create beautiful watercolor and oil compositions that she enjoyed exhibiting. Victoria had the ability to capture nature brilliantly. She was a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts and her work was used in national advertising campaigns. Her paintings are held by collections in the tri-state area and on the west coast. Her artistic talent extended to gardening as well, where she always created colorful and unique visual designs.
Her love of the arts remained a constant throughout her life. She looked to instill that in her grandchildren. She enjoyed the opera and going to the symphony, playing the piano, garden deisgn, cooking/baking, reading, antiquing, and the beach. She always said that the most special gift was spending time with all of her grandchildren, who she says brought the most joy to her life.
Victoria leaves three children, her son, Frederick P. Schaefer, III; her daughter, Elizabeth A. Glaser and her husband Thomas of Waterbury and her daughter, Marisa L. Hammond and her husband Arthur "Lee" of Prospect; her beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Molly and Benjamin Glaser, and Collette and Alexander "GeeGee" Hammond; and her two sisters, Patricia Colby and Kathleen Colby both of Prospect.
Services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
