Ruth McCoy Gleeton, 92, of Cheshire, CT, passed peacefully on January 3, 2024.

Ruth was born on April 14, 1931 to Nelson and Ruth McCoy in Zanesville, OH. After graduating from Laurel School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English at Skidmore College.

She and Richard (Dick) Gleeton wed in 1954, going on to have three children, Mary, Tom, and Nan. They were happily married for 64 years.

Ruth dedicated her life to being a wonderful mother and wife. She excelled at supporting her family through the many passions and challenges of their lives.

Ruth enjoyed birds, gardening, playing bridge, Hershey’s® Kisses, and music/art. Later in life, she became the fine arts librarian at Cheshire Public Library.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband, Richard and is survived by her three children -    Mary Schoonmaker and her husband Jon, Tom Gleeton and his wife Sarah, Nan Conlon and her husband Dave, seven grandchildren - Dennis Schoonmaker and his wife, Juana, Mark Schoonmaker, Patrick Gleeton and his wife, Lauren, Molly Gleeton, Lincoln Gleeton, Kacey Conlon, Tommy Conlon and four great grandchildren - Max, Mateo, and Maddox Schoonmaker and Wynne Gleeton.

The family would like express our deepest appreciation and gratitude to Mulberry Gardens, who cared for our mother during 2023 and to MidState Medical Center’s Pavilion B staff, who gave exceptional attention and care to our mother during her final days. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Friends of the Cheshire Public Library (https://www.cheshirelibrary.org/friends-of-the-library/). A celebration of life will be held later this year.
