Fernando Ruggeri Worked as a police officer, mechanic, crossing guard
NAUGATUCK — Mr. Fernando "Fred" Ruggeri, 90, formerly of 259 North Hoadley St., died Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at Beacon Brook Health Care Center in Naugatuck surrounded by his loving family. He was the widower of Dorothy (Peck) Ruggeri.
Mr. Ruggeri was born in Pine Bluff, Ark., on Oct. 5, 1921, a son of the late Ceasar and Zaira (Masselini) Ruggeri. He was retired from the Borough of Naugatuck where he worked as a police officer for many years and also worked as a mechanic with the Department of Public Works and most recently as a crossing guard. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck.
Mr. Ruggeri was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Mr. Ruggeri is survived by five daughters, Kathleen Ishmael and her husband, Don, of Woodstock, Ga., Susan Ruggeri-Thornton and her husband, Rick, of Naugatuck, Linda Townsend and her husband, Rob, of Menahawkin, N.J., Laurie Ardizzone and her husband, Vinny, of Shelton, and Tracie Flynn and her husband, Keith, of Long Pond, Pa.; a son, Fred Ruggeri of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, Ceasar Ruggeri and his wife, Gerri, of Naugatuck; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, is in charge of arrangements.
