Emblem

CHESHIRE - Roy F. Bellante, age 78, a beloved father & grandfather, proud veteran, dedicated union member, loyal friend, and devoted husband of Janet E. (Parker) Bellante for over 54 years passed away peacefully on August 30th, 2024. Roy was born March 20th, 1946, in Meriden, CT and was son to the late Ernest R. Bellante and Emma (Franco) Bellante.

After graduating from Maloney High School in Meriden, CT, Roy served his country honorably in the US Navy, aboard the USS Atakapa, as an Engineman, starting what would become his lifelong career as a heavy equipment mechanic & operator. Following his military service, Roy joined the International Union of Operating Engineers “Local 478” where he proudly served as a member for 55 years. For many of those years, Roy was employed by Roncari Industries of East Granby while embracing the role of Local 478 Union Steward where he loved supporting his fellow members and advocating for workers’ rights.

Beyond his career, Roy was a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband. Early in fatherhood, he was an active volunteer at Silver City BMX in Meriden, CT, and passionate dog lover, supporting his wife Jan in the breeding and showing of Samoyeds. During this time, he could often be found changing gears on his son’s bike or on the human end of a dog leash. As his family grew, Roy enjoyed watching his son play lacrosse and made sure to attend nearly every single high school and college game no matter how far it was to travel. Later in life, Roy picked up golf and enjoyed playing every weekend with his family and friends. Roy was a big NASCAR and NY Jet’s fan who also loved UCONN Basketball.

In retirement, Roy remained active in the Union where he was a member until his passing. He loved playing senior softball, basketball, and of course golf. He always had fun traveling with his wife Jan to historic landmarks, the beach, or to visit his grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family and cared deeply for his nieces, nephews, and their children. Roy will be remembered most for his kind spirit, his quick wit, and his love of storytelling.

In addition to his wife, Jan, Roy is survived by his children Vincent (Sloane) Bellante and Melissa Bellante, his grandchildren Rocco Bellante and River Bellante, and his brother Donald M. Bellante

Friends may greet Roy’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 South Main Street, Cheshire, CT 06140 on Friday, October 18th, from 3:00pm- 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Esophageal Cancer Action Network Inc. or The American Red Cross Blood Services.
