Bethlehem - Ronald G. Hurlbut, 82, formerly of Bristol, Meriden and Waterbury, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2013 at his home. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Blanchard) (Noseworthy) Hurlbut.
Ron was born September 12, 1930, the son of the late Charles Wilmer and Gertrude Regina (Yoos) Hurlbut. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War for two years and was a member of the Army Reserve for eight years. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School class of 1949 in Waterbury, CT; a graduate of University of Bridgeport, the School of Banking at Brown University, and the Senior Management School at University of Massachusetts.
Ron started his banking career at Waterbury Savings Bank, where he worked for twenty years; then served as a Vice President at City Savings Bank of Meriden; Mechanics Savings Bank of Hartford and Naugatuck Savings Bank, from where he retired.
Ron was a member and past President of the Wolcott Lions Club, and was also a member of the Meriden and Middlebury Lions Clubs; a board member of the American Heart Association and a member of the H.S. Liederkrantz of Thomaston. Ron's many hobbies include sports, photography, traveling and reading. He was an avid stamp collector and belonged to the Waterbury Stamp Club. He was past Treasurer of the Bethlehem Historical Society and Chairman of the Bethlehem Historic District. He was an accomplished golfer and enjoyed playing with the Crestbrook Retirees Golf League. He was also a genealogist and had traced his family back to the 1400's.
In addition to his wife of 20 years, Mr. Hurlbut is survived by his sister, Cynthia (Hurlbut) DeLoia of Waterbury; his brother Charles Hurlbut; his son Scott Hurlbut and his wife Jeanne of Scottsdale, AZ, Steven Hurlbut and his partner Karen of Boston, MA: his daughter Patricia Lee Hurlbut and her partner David Gracia of Bristol; his step-sons Victor Noseworthy and his wife Linda of Watertown; Michael Noseworthy of Groton, MA, and Thomas Noseworthy and his wife Ruth of Grove City, PA; his grandchildren Caroline Hurlbut, Kari Noseworthy, Lauren Noseworthy, Jillian Noseworthy, SGT Thomas C. "T.C." Noseworthy, Cody Noseworthy, and Mason Noseworthy.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 9, 2013 at 12 noon at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Avenue. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends will be received by Mr. Hurlbut's family on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
