SEYMOUR- Mr. Robert Lewis Slater, 85, of Seymour, passed away early Monday morning April 28, 2014, at the Griffin Hospital in Derby. He was the husband of the late Dorothy "Joan" (Larn) Slater, who passed away in 2005 after 53 years of marriage.
Mr. Slater was born in Waterbury, May 20, 1928, a son of the late Henry G. and Elizabeth (Latham) Slater. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, having received the Good Conduct Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was a resident of the lower Naugatuck valley for many years, moving to Prospect and then to Delmar, FL. He returned to Conn. in 2008 settling in Ansonia. He had been a resident of Seymour for the past year. He was Vice-President of the Resident Council at Shady Knoll Health Care Center, since his admission there
He is survived by his children, Susan Sullivan and her husband Dennis of Cheshire, Karen Dowdell of Naugatuck, and Michael Slater and his wife Tina of Virginia; 7 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his 5 brothers and sisters, William Slater, Mary Foley, Dorothy Coviello, Walter Slater, and Shirley Slater.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 12 noon at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Military honors will be accorded following the service, outside the funeral home. Burial will be in Deland Memorial Gardens, Deland FL. at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
