Cheshire - Robert Murray Patterson, 89, of Cheshire, CT, passed away Saturday February 28, 2009 at his home with his family. He was the husband of Chloe (Wright) Patterson.
He was born on the family farm in Carrolton, Ohio in 1919. After graduating high school in Minerva, Ohio, he attended Ohio State University. During World War II, he volunteered to join the US Army Air Corps, and received cadet training at Yale University. As a commissioned officer, he spent most of the war as the Chief of Aircraft Maintenance in Ontario California.
After the war, he returned to Diebold Corporation, eventually becoming Chief Engineer. Then he entered into a partnership that owned and operated Industrial Testing Laboratory, Shell-Cast Corporation, and Engineered Specialties Corporation of Wallingford, CT.
He was also President of Northeastern Tool & Manufacturing, Inc., also of Wallingford. There he made numerous innovations in the production of plastic bottles and plastic bottle molds. In his retirement, he spent time in both Cheshire, CT and Ouray, CO. He was very active in the First Congregational Church of Cheshire
Besides his wife of 64 years, Mr. Patterson is survived by his children Susan Patterson, of Gaithersburg, MD, Randall Patterson, of Chicago, IL and Robert M. Patterson Jr., of Hamilton, NJ.
Arrangements ' Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 3, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Cheshire, 111 Church Drive. Burial will follow in Cheshire Hillside Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
