Robert J. Murgatroy

Robert James “Bob” Murgatroy, age 77, of Waterbury passed away suddenly on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital.  He was the husband of Alberta (Gray) Murgatroy for over 38 years.  Robert was born on November 14, 1945 in Waterbury, son of the late Earl C. and Ruth (Johnson) Murgatroy.

Bob served his country with honor and pride with the US Army.  He and Alberta met at the St. Anne’s bingo hall, and romance soon followed.  Together they frequented the bingo halls in the area and throughout Connecticut.  His pride was his purple Plymouth Duster, which still is a highlight of conversation amongst family.  Bob was a WWE fanatic; wrestling has lost their biggest fan.

In addition to his wife, Alberta, he is survived by his loving step-children, Wendy McPeters of ID; Mike Gray and his wife, Chris of ID; and Dianne McPeters and her children, Randi Jo and Johnnie Ray of Las Vegas, NV.  Bob also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and his very close friend, Brian Naylor of Naugatuck. He was predeceased by his siblings, Earl R. Murgatroy, Raymond Murgatroy and Beverly Azukas.

Friends may greet Bob’s family at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Avenue, Waterbury, CT 06704 on Sunday, January 8, 2023 from 2PM until 4PM. Military Honors will be held at 3:30PM.  Burial will be held in the Spring at the family plot in Northfield Cemetery, Thomaston, CT.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.
