Robert M. Winzler (of Wolcott) passed away peacefully at home on July 15, 2021, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife, best friend and companion of 67 years, Joyce A. (Valsecchi) Winzler.
Bob was born July 14, 1932 in Torrington, CT., son of the late Michael B. and Helen R. (Anderson) Winzler. He was a graduate of Torrington High School, where he was a member of the orchestra and a founding member of the marching band.
Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict on board the USS Coral Sea CVB 43 and at the U.S. Naval Air Station, Quonset Point, R.I. Upon receiving his Honorable Discharge, he resumed his education and was a 1957 Honors Graduate at Post College in Waterbury. Bob spent most of his working career as a corporate Credit Manager. After retirement, he was an associate at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Homes for several years.
For 66 years, Bob was a member and was a Past Master of Torrington’s Seneca Masonic Lodge #55. He was also a Charter Member of Wolcott’s Masonic Lodge #146.
Bob was a member of the National Association of Credit Managers, and was president of the Hartford Division in 1972. He served as an EMT on the Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance for 10 years. He was a member of the Wolcott VFW Post 1979 and the USS Coral Sea CVB43 Assoc. Bob was a 60-year member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Wolcott and served his church in many capacities. Bob especially enjoyed family gatherings for holidays and special occasions.
In addition to his wife Joyce, he leaves his son Dave and wife Robin of Portland, ME; daughter Dona and husband Brian of Manchester; grandchildren Kate and husband Chuck; Julie; Calvin; Dan and wife Michelle; Kelly; Jordan; and great-grandchildren Rhys, Declan and Annika.
Mr. Winzler’s funeral service will be held 12:30 PM, Saturday, July 31, 2021 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 282 Boundline Rd., Wolcott, CT 06716. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial with full military honors will be held at Edgewood Cemetery following the funeral. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Waterbury, 496 Chase Ave, 06704 is assisting the family with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints’ Church, P.O.
