CHESHIRE-Robert Albert Edgar, 86, of Cheshire, loving husband for 63 years of Peggy (Fish) Edgar, died at home on July 22, surrounded by family.
Bob was born in Willimantic, Connecticut on February 1, 1927 to the late Frank and Alice (Flubacher) Edgar.
He graduated from Windham High School in Willimantic, where he was a star football player and a member of the basketball team. He served his country in the United States Army and was involved in the occupation forces in Austria following World War II. Bob then attended Northeastern University and Boston University, graduating in 1952 with a BA in Business. During college, he was a member of the Scabbard and Blade Honor Society of the ROTC.
Following graduation, Bob pursued a career as a Manager of Marketing and Production Control, and was employed by the Miller Company, Wallace International Silver, and L'Amy. He was a former President of the Connecticut Chapter of the American Marketing Association. Bob was a very active member of the Cheshire United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and member of the Administrative Board and as a Christian Education teacher and leader. Bob was also an avid golfer and bowler, winning many trophies. After he retired, Bob worked as an AARP Tax Aide volunteer.
He and his wife traveled extensively, including visits to all fifty states, Europe, Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean. He loved spending time at Lake Cobbosseecontee in Maine, where he and Peggy honeymooned and spent time every year thereafter. He loved the Red Sox, family vacations, and jumping in the ocean waves with his children. Bob touched everyone in his life with his warm, gentle, and joyful spirit. He was a wonderful, loving father and grandfather, and more than anything else in the world Bob loved spending time with his family.
Bob leaves behind the love of his life, his wife Peggy. He also leaves behind his four children, Kathleen Garnet and her spouse Joyce Crutchfield of Manchester, David Edgar and his partner Edward Song of Farmington, Susan Spencer of Marlborough, NH, and Thomas Edgar and his spouse Linda of South Portland, ME. In addition, he leaves seven grandchildren, Brian, James, and Colin Garnet, Katie and Gaelyn Spencer, and Jordan and Jillian Edgar, and honorary grandson Alex Martin. He is also survived by his sisters; Joyce Knox and her husband Donald of Farmington, CT and Lorraine Smith and her husband Wallace of Acworth, GA, and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his sisters; Shirely Knox and Joan Miller, and his brothers; Arthur Edgar and William Edgar.
Arrangements- His funeral will be held 11 A.M, Friday July 26, 2013 at Cheshire United Methodist Church, 205 Academy Road, 06410. Friends are asked to meet directly at church. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Following the interment family and friends are asked to return to Cheshire United Methodist Church for a time of fellowship and refreshment. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 25 from 5 to 8 P.M at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cheshire United Methodist Church, 205 Academy Road, 06410.
