Robert E. Bristol

Cheshire-Robert E. Bristol, 87, of Cheshire, formerly of Orange, died Thursday June 26, 2014. After serving in the Navy during WWII and the Korean War, he went to college at the University of Connecticut where he studied engineering and met his first great love, Joan Hawley. Over 54 years with Joan, he had three children, Laurel, Robin and Alan and four grandchildren, Heather, Drew, Brittany and William. Devoted to family and church, he was always looking out for others. He remained a UCONN fan, especially enjoying the successes of the women’s basketball team. He loved woodworking and tinkering in his workshops. An early riser, he faithfully delivered the morning newspapers at Elim Park. After the death of Joan in 2006, he was lucky to meet another love, Shirley C. Jacobsen and they married in 2007. Shirley died in 2013. He is survived by his brothers, George and Thomas and sisters, Eleanor and Sharon, his 3 children, 4 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements- A memorial service celebrating Robert’s life will be held in the fall. There are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with arrangements.
