WATERBURY- Mr. Robert R."Poppie"Dumschott, Sr., 72, of 619 Washington Ave., Waterbury and a former Naugatuck resident, died Friday May 15, 2009 at his home. He was the husband of the late Mary Francis (Lahey) Dumschott who died in 2001 after 44 years of marriage.
Mr. Dumschott was born in Waterbury, Jan 6, 1937, a son of the late William C. and Martha (Haversat) Dumschott and was raised in Beacon Falls He had been a Waterbury resident for the past 9 months having moved from Naugatuck. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, having served as a Corporal from 1954 through 1958, and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a member of the Beacon Falls Congregational Church and the Marine Corps League of Seymour. He had formerly served as a member of the Parks and Recreation Commission in Beacon Falls and had coached Babe Ruth and Girls Softball and had been active in Boy Scouts in Beacon Falls while his children were growing up.
He leaves 5 sons, Gary Dumschott of Prospect, Robert Dumschott, Jr. of Beacon Falls, Francis Dumschott of Waterbury, Mark Dumschott and Drew Dumschott Pikulski both of Naugatuck; 4 daughters, Kimberly Carnaroli of Naugatuck, Roxanne Sudhoff of Cheshire, Susan Drown of Prospect, and Randalee Virela of Waterbury; one sister, Barbara Supranovich of Carmel, ME; 20 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 10 am at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial with full military honors will be in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday May 18th from 5 to 8 pm.
