MIDDLEBURY- Mr. Robert Henry Bell, 82, of 792 Christian Rd., Middlebury, died Monday evening August 24, 2009 at the River Glen Health Care Center, Southbury. He was the husband of Elisabeth (Coleman) Bell.
Mr. Bell was born in Westfield, Maine, June 2, 1927, a son of the late Clinton and Verna (McPherson) Bell and had been a Middlebury resident for the past 50 years, moving here from Naugatuck. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with the Quarter Master Corps, 626th Refrigeration Co. from 1945 through 1948. His decorations included the American Theater Ribbon, the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the WW II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medial-Germany. He retired from Uniroyal- Chemical Division in Naugatuck in 1980 with over 30 years of service. He was a member of the Calvary Life Center in Waterbury, where he had been active on many of the committees of the church.
Besides his wife of 62 years, he leaves two sons, Robert H. Bell of Middlebury, and John H. Bell of Dover, N.H.; 3 daughters, Lona Crask of Torrington, Valerie Howe of Mansfield, MO, and R. Joyce Decamp of Greeley, CO; one brother, William "Virgil" Bell of Wilton, ME; one sister, Eleanor Hammond of Brunswick, ME and a step-sister Chavala Kinney of New Mexico; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be held on Friday Aug. 28th at 10 am at the Calvary Life Center, 151 Grassy Hill Rd., Waterbury. Burial with full military honors will be in Lake Elise Cemetery, Long Meadow Rd., Middlebury. Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Waterbury, 9 Holmes Ave., on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make memorial contributions o the Calvary Life Center, 151 Grassy Hill Rd., Waterbury 06704.
