CHESHIRE - Rita H. Nolan passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at the Meriden Center in Meriden. She was the wife of the late Edward Nolan.
Mrs. Nolan was born May 25, 1916, in New Haven, the daughter of the late Michael and Agnes (Connellan) Howe. She attended Commercial High School and Stone School of Business, and worked for the New Haven Railroad. After marrying, she moved to the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, where she lived for many years. During that time, she worked for D. M. Read's department store. In 2004, she moved to Cheshire to be closer to her family. She loved being a homemaker, playing bingo, line dancing, and all things Irish. She was a faithful Catholic and a communicant of St. Bridget Church. She was loved by all who knew her.
Mrs. Nolan is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen Thompson and her husband Glenn of Cheshire, her granddaughter Caroline, whom she loved dearly, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings Mary Howe, Regina Howe, John Howe, and Agnes Smith.
Mrs. Nolan's family would like to thank the staff at the Meriden Center for their caring and compassion throughout her stay.
Arrangements - Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 24, 2013, 9:15 from the Alderson Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 S. Main St. to St. Bridget Church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Trumbull. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
