CHESHIRE - Richard D. Thompson, 78, passed away Monday January 2, 2012 at Masonicare in Wallingford. He was the husband of Anne (O'Connor) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was born June 1, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA the son of the late Richard and Clara (Maguire) Thompson. He was a graduate of the Immaculate Heart Academy in Watertown, NY and received a BA from Penn State University in 1955. He worked in the insurance industry in the property and casualty field for many years until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the B.P.O.E. 1365 of Wallingford. He was an avid Penn State Football fan and enjoyed golf, reading and crossword puzzles.
Besides his wife of 48 years, Mr. Thompson is survived by his sisters-in-law Catherine E. Callahan and Nora N. O'Connor; his nieces and nephews, William and Ellen O'Connor III, Christopher and Catherine O'Connor, Laura A Bourque, Elise O'Connor, Nicholas and Teenamarie Callahan, Daniel and Martha Callahan, Noreen and Fred Rivers, and Rosemary and Daniel Brockman; 21 grand nieces and nephews; as well as 1 great grand niece. He is predeceased by his brothers-in-law William D. O'Connor and Daniel N. Callahan.
The family would like to thank Dr. James Sarfeh and his staff; the Hospice Nurses, especially Patricia Santangelo, as well as Mr. Thompson's friends and neighbors for their care and support.
Arrangements - A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday January 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours.
