RHINEBECK, N.Y. - Mr. Richard William Swan, 88, of Rhinebeck, N.Y. and a former Naugatuck resident, passed away early Wednesday morning Aug. 3, 2011 at the North Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck. Mr. Swan was born in Johnstown, PA, Mar. 14, 1923 the son of the late Howard and Mary (Tuckey) Swan and moved to Naugatuck in the early 30's. He was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and was a veteran of World War II having served with the 47th Air Depot Group Army Air Corps. as an air plane and engine mechanic. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Easter Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He retired from IBM with over 35 years of service. He leaves several nieces and nephews, including, Mary Brickley of Bloomfield, Sharon Schildgren of Litchfield, Frederick Swan of Norwalk, OH, Joseph Swan of Naugatuck, Robert Swan of Middlebury, and John Camp of Milford and a sister-in-law, Margaret Swan of Naugatuck. He was predeceased by his siblings, Howard Swan and Mildred Camp. His funeral service will be held on Friday Aug. 5th at 11 am at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, Cross St. with full military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday morning from 10 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Conn.
