Richard J Barone Sr, 82, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Mid-State Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Judith (Merluzzi) Barone. Richard was born on June 30, 1938 in Waterbury, the son of the late Carmine and Rose (Cerullo) Barone.
Richard graduated Crosby High School in 1956 and attended Fairfield University where he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He retired from SNET as a Project Manager and throughout the years also worked as a math educator at Wolcott High School, Post College, Naugatuck Valley Community College, and Quinnipiac University. He served our country with honor as a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Richard was a long time Cheshire resident and a communicant of St. Bridget of Sweden Parish, where he enjoyed playing guitar with the Contemporary Music Choir. He was a proud member of the Boy Scouts of America where he served as a Leader of Troup 26, a member of the Mattatuck Camp Volunteers, and an active participant at many district and council levels. Richard played the fife as a lifelong member of the Mattatuck Drum Band. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UCONN Women’s Basketball.
Along with his wife of over 50 years, Richard is survived by his daughters Susan Chrzanowski (David) and Rebecca Barone, his son Richard J Barone Jr, his sister Joyce Recchia, his brother-in-law Joseph Merluzzi (Lorraine), and his grandchildren, Madison and Devon.
Arrangements – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 10:30am at St. Bridget Church, 175 Main St., Cheshire. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery and there are no calling hours. The Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire is assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to “Connecticut Rivers Council – Mattatuck Volunteers”.
