Cheshire ' Richard L. Izard Sr. of Cheshire passed away July 4, 2009 at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. He was the husband of Edythe M. (Berntsen) Izard.
Mr. Izard was born June 20, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY the son of the late Henry Carley Murdock and Hazel O. (Lyons) Izard. He was a WWII Marine Veteran serving as a fighter pilot and achieved the rank of Major. At the conclusion of WWII, he married his high school sweetheart on August 18, 1946. He graduated Columbia University in 1948 and was re-activated and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
Mr. Izard was a long time Cheshire resident, having moved here in 1958. He was an active member of the Cheshire Lutheran Church and was active for many years with Boy Scouts of America in Troops 92 and 91. He was involved with little league with both of his sons. He was a kind, loving husband and father who was generous and caring and always put others first.
Besides his wife of 63 years, Mr. Izard is survived by his son David C. Izard and his wife Christine of Exton, PA; his daughters Holly V. Izard of Storrs, CT and Carol Gay Izard DeLapp and her husband Gregory of Wyomissing, PA; his daughter-in-law Kristin Izard of Georgia; his grandchildren Erik L. Izard, Aaron M. Paterson, Colin G. Paterson, Paul M. DeLapp, Patrick K. DeLapp, Connor D. Izard, Matthew C. Izard, and Sophia K. Izard. Mr. Izard is predeceased by his son Richard Jr. and his brother Charles.
Arrangements ' A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 11, 2009, at 10 a.m. at the Cheshire Lutheran Church, 660 West Main St. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours.
